Tout le monde s’extasie devant cette merveille : Andrews, le constructeur, Ismay, le propriétaire, Smith, le capitaine, les marins de l’équipage dont Barrett, l’attachant mécanicien, Bride, l’opérateur radio et Fleet, le veilleur (celui qui apercevra trop tard l’iceberg fatal). Puis embarquent les passagers des trois classes. Dans l’euphorie générale, le bateau largue enfin les amarres. A bord, les passagers de première classe, les plus célèbres fortunes américaines, savourent le luxe et le confort de leur position sociale
